When do you want to use it?

I use potting soil from the christmas flowers I receive in December. I add fresh potting soil and some gravel at the bottom of the flower pot so the roots will not rot. Try it, it works.

Yes you can, just remove the old roots, from what was planted in it previously

Be careful about reusing old soil. If you are repotting houseplants, make sure your old soil doesn't have flies or any other inhabitants in it. You can cook old soil in the oven at 200 degrees for an hour to kill the bad things, but you will also loose the benificial microbes. Then it just becomes potting medium. You will have to add nutirents to the soil for any plants you use it on.
