Do you have a photo of the area you need to build this? That would really help.

Hi Becky,Thank you for your response. It's an acre and a half,& What I actually need is a fenced in deck, right outside the back door so that they can actually stay out there when I leave for a few hours and be safe.It will practically be a large room, but I am not creative enough I guess, to find a way to do it for practically nothing.Three of my dogs are males,so they have got to be out unless they're being watched.I do have the roof. It's aluminum roofing..which is perfect....any suggestions? :0)

I'm sorry @Jmarie, but without photos it's all but impossible for me, or anyone to help you. We have to know all of what you are working with. Are you saying you have a covered deck, but need a way to keep the dogs on it? I could ask you loads of questions, but I've an article to write and a photo would answer most, if not all, the questions I have, but maybe dimensions. I'd really like to help you so I'll check back when I can.

No.I have an empty acre-no deck. There's nothing to send a picture of.

@Jmarie813 okay, I gotcha. I should tell you I'm going on very little sleep the last two nights so forgive me for not realizing that before. Have you thought of a covered dog run made from chain link fence? Not very pretty, but not too expensive and very strong.

I see you are in Florida...you probably do not want a dog house because of snakes. Perhaps a "resting platform with a leanto covering. Go to the library and copy some pages from books on building a deck/ramp...same principle. Think shade when positioning the roof...i.e., face open area to east. Why not invite some friends to help and put in a fenced area (place rocks at base of fence because soft soil in FL is easy for dog to dig out of! If you are going to stay there, you will easily recap your money! Then put up some shade. (Dogs poop when they are outside and you don't want that mess at your back door! Lime often!)

@Jeanette S +Thank you,Jeanette! Yes,that's close to what I need, but I have to add a high railing-fence so they can't get out and go exploring. They're big dogs and strong. I was trying to get out of a drawn out project,..but don't seem to have a choice. The deck would be easy, but adding the detail may get to be more than I want to do. Thank you again for your help...I appreciate it.

I know that there are "catio" instructions on-line, you could google those and perhaps expand on the idea with stronger materials and a bigger size...........

Thank you,Kathy. There's no simple way apparently. They need a large enclosed room. I'll look on HG as well. Thank you for the great idea. I appreciate it.

Thank you for understanding @Jmarie. I've been up for only a half hour now, after a long (10.5 hrs) wonderfully restful night. I should accomplish a whole lot today! Oh and I did have loads of dreams. I can't really remember what they were about, but I have the feeling their were pleasant.
