Suggestion for Open Space

I have an open concept that connects my living room and dining room. I have one long wall and one window on the other (L shaped) in the "dining" area. I am thinking of putting a wall unit along the non-window side. I am not sure how to "fill in" or "break up" the rest of it (in front of the wall unit), as just leaving a wall unit makes a really large "open" area in front of it to reach my living room sectional/tv area. There is also a hanging light figure that is supposed to hang over the dining room set. Any suggestions? Hope my description makes sense.

If you could post a couple of pictures, that would be really helpful.

I am a big believer in Houzz.com because you know what you are looking for and what you have. This web site has thousands of photos of completed rooms. You can narrow your search to your style by putting it in the search area. try them.

We have a similar set up and placed an antique wardrobe that's been in my husband's family for several generations at edge of the living room/dining room to break up the space . I understand that not everyone has one of those in their garage to redo , but my point is use a large piece that will help define the space . Even if you rescue and recover an overstuffed chair, it helps to create a line.
