What is the beat way you have found to redo your kitchen cabinets?

I painted my cabinets without sanding or priming and of course the paint scratches right off. So I now need to do them the "right way" rather than the easy Way. Surely there is a right way that is easy too.

Heirloom Traditions sells a chalk paint made specifically for cabinets. You don't need to prime first, but you do need to apply minimum 2 coats for the cabinets to look good. If you watch the tutorial on their website, they show how to apply the paint and the 2nd coat to get a smooth, good looking finish. I've tested it on a few boards and it works as promised, so I'll be re-doing our bathroom vanity soon. Here's a link - http://howto.htpaint.com/how-to-use-heirloom-traditions-paint

The other way I've seen it done -- sand your cabinets, wipe them down, then paint with a primer. Then 3 coats of oil based paint from there. It's a long process but it does work.

Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123. Then paint with your color. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

William gave you the perfect way to do it. I did this many, many years ago when my kids were little and the paint NEVER chipped or scratched off. Good luck

I used Rustoleum's cabinet transformation on mine and it's held up for the last 4 years. It's a bit of a process but, soooo worth it for my kitchen

If you live near a large city take the doors off strip off hardware and send them to one of the many places that will strip the paint off for you. The cost is a little but the work ahead since you already painted them and said it wasn't a good job this would be better. The days of stripping and sanding will well be worth this. When you do paint them lay them flat and tape the other side of the door so if paint does run off the edge and pool on the other side it be a large drip to deal with.
