Give a boring room a classy upgrade with DIY board and batten. I've done this with two rooms in my house and have been very happy with the results.
I've included brief instructions with each photo. Check out the blog post for full instructions.

The best method is to remove the baseboard and bottom 4ft of drywall and replace it with plywood. It is possible to not put up backing board in there is no wall texture.
Place the baseboard, battens, and cap
Caulking the gaps between the plywood, boards, and wall.
The outlet was replaced for a matching white and new white wood faceplates were added.
The final look!
