we did this in our bathroom...(not happy campers doing this!) had to scrape all the old grout out till spaces are clean (vac also)....then re-grout and seal. Sometimes it "takes"..sometimes it doesn't..if not, have to re-do those that didn't.

My friend had a cleaning company machine scrub her floors and they came out looking new...then have them sealed.

You can either get a manual or an electric grout sawband sand that old grout out of there and replace with the new. Seal the new! Also, they make grout 'paint' if you're not up to the in depth task of sanding it out!

Christi has it. Manual grout saw or electric, and use the carbide blade to clear out the grout lines until they are clear enough to re-grout.

Taking out the old is tedious , dangerous if you don't know what you're doing because you'll wind up with cracked tile as well . Easier to clean up the old grout with vinegar , paint the desired color and seal. The methods of sealing now are so easy , there's no excuse not to .
