Milk Paint Roll Top Desk

I love milk paint, it is an age old paint that has unique qualities perfect for antique and vintage pieces. I find it keeps the character of the piece so much better then some of the more modern furniture paints.

Here is an antique roll top desk I reloved using milk paint in a gorgeous blue green with a hemp oil finish.
isnt it the sweetest little roll top desk??
here it was before, although it looks lovely in this photo the poor thing had lots of dings and bangs and damage and really need a fresh new lease on life
I chose miss mustard seed's milk paint in kitchen scale on the outside and it took only one coat even over this dark original finish. I sanded it well and sealed it with miss mustard seed's hemp oil in two coats, so easy and creates a lovely finish once dry and buffed
for the inside I chose Homestead House milk paint in laurentian for the drawer fronts giving each 2 coats of paint and again hemp oil to seal and for the pull our drawer I chose fusion mineral paint in coal black
note that milk paint gives a variegated color finish which can be enhanced by burnishing before sealing, I think the authenticity of milk paint is perfect, you?
Suggested materials:
  • Miss mustard seed milk paint and hemp oil
  • Homestead house milk paint
  • Fusion mineral paint
