Pony tail plant- How do I care for it?

I just bought a large pony tail plant. It's on a covered patio in Texas. How often do I water it? Thanks

Rule of thumb when dry to the touch
I live in South Texas and I found that they can go for long periods without water. So don't stress out about watering if you forget. I have 3 very large plants. One in direct sunlight, and one in a large Coco basket in mostly shade. And another in partial sun. Two of them are 20 years old and been through inclement weather. I water intermittently as I remember. Summer time of course they need more. They are very hardy plants. Enjoy
