Lightly sand,clean,prime with Zinser or kilz,allow to dry,paint with a foam roller,allow to f]dry and seal with at least two to three coats of a polycrylic,allowing to be totally dry in-between.

They can be painted! Chalk paint is easy. Sand them down, and paint.

Thanks so much but I wanted them to look like oak wood instead of painted. Any other ideas??
