We need help/advice for our Stair refinishing...

We have a set of stairs that had old carpet. Upon taking up the carpet we discovered paint splotched steps. Any help in refinishing the stairs without spending a lot would be appreciated.

strip or sand the steps, prime and repaint with a porch type paint.
they were just showing here on hometalk they used wall covering on the risers but a reader suggested a waterfall decal u can get cheeeep on ebay.. It was really pretty and creative...good luck dhall
We just finished our downstairs steps. First we installed dark-stained treads (if not possible for you, any dark paint or yours stripped & sanded & stained) then, because I LOVE beadboard, we installed white beadboard on the risers . Also, the stringers were painted the same as the walls. Boy, do those stairs pop & I love the look. maybe that will help. Use 3 or 4 coats of low sheen varnish to finish the tread. If you have railings, use the same colour combo - dark railing & light spindles. Hope this helps.
Cover the steps with stained pallet boards.
Repaint them and stencil the risers.
