Either will work. My personal preference are washabe curtains only beause I have a ton of pets, and dusting or cleaning blinds is too time consuming for me. If that is not a concern, blinds are great. What kind of look are you going for? Will it coordinate with others features in the room? All things to consider.
I think drapes are the way to go for a dining room. They give the place character
Are you needing to cover the whole window? If so I would definitely do grapes in your dining room especially if it is more on the formal side long drapes even on one side could be really pretty. Go to home goods they have so many ideas there and I would also look on Pinterest for thoughts then go to home goods and look at their stash !!! You can also even use just a half a ride if you want sometimes it looks really cool
Why not both? I have two inch faux white wood blinds in my west facing dining room window (and family room) that I can close in the afternoon. They totally block out that blazing heat. I topped my DR window with a cute valance, but I used drapes with blinds in the LR and it looks really nice.
I have both as well. The drapes are decorative and stay open . I open the faux wood blinds every morning and evening to let in light and close for privacy .
