If you want to do it naturally - try a vinegar and water spray (half half) with essential oils to improve the scent. Spray generously whenever needed.

In my kitchen , when they come in, I wet my counter down good around the window and faucet with straight white vinegar... making sure to leave it wet. The Ants really hate it .

i've used equal parts borax and sugar around the foundation of my house. worked really well most larger animals can't get their snout into that crack.

I kill them manually and remove all food crumbs and wash counters with vinegar especially the trail they used to enter the house. After about a week or two they will quit that path. I have not seen any this year yet but I bet I will.

The ones I manually killed were little tiny black ants but I also have carpenter ants that roam around, I kill those manually also. Squish.

I used lemon juice to obliterate their trail. I found where they were coming in at the kitchen window and rubbed a lemon over the area to the cabinet where they had found the honey. Of course, I emptied the cabinet first and gave it a good cleaning. Lemon smells a little nicer than vinegar.
