How do I decorate above my kitchen cabinets?

I used to have a country theme with roosters and such, since then we have painted our cabinets in a beautiful burgundy color and my kichen counter is white tiles.

I placed those rectangular wire baskets with homespun fabric liners on top of my cabinets. Then labeled them with kraft paper tags. They hold my cookie cutters, extra light bulbs, extension cords, my canning equipment, etc.

You don't necessarily have to "put" things above your cabinetry. How about painting something above the cabinets? Let your inner artist out and paint a mural on the wall. Or if you really don't know how to paint a straight line (lol) then how about buying a mural? Or mirrored tiles. Would reflect the light and make it brighter. Or fabric on the wall like wallpaper? Any way, there are other options to putting dust magnets on top. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Use large items in odd numbers to create one or two focal points (not over the range). Home Goods has vases and other such items that would work. Pick a color scheme that will coordinate with your kitchen and shop for it. Your kitchen cabinets would look good with colors like mustard, olive, indigo blue, burnt orange, taupe. Don't strew various objects across the whole top, where the eye can't rest (and that will gather dust). Large objects can be taken down a few times a year for cleaning. Whatever way you go, be sure to post the after pic. Good luck!

Molding at top of cabinets! (Will make your kitchen look rich.) Then keep it simple with a FEW items or artificial greenery of contrasting textures.

Diana has the right idea. You could use vases or large pitchers with a coordinating charger on an easel. Even sign with a favorite quote...good luck.

I think instead of just decorating the entire top, I'd do a couple of vignettes with bottles, Mason jars with a little greenery or floral, a sign on an easel etc.....
