Depending on where you are located - Pacasandra - AKA Japanese Spurge is great ground cover, very hardy and spreads well.

  • What are you looking to achieve? Decorative? Groundcover? A combination of different rocks, mulch with native plants can be quite striking. Make sure to take into consideration your climate and lighting in the area you wish to cover.

Stick to a lawn or have it removed and put down cover to keep weeds from growing and cover it with rocks which you can use different colors and create a unique design.

A Xeriscape would be a good choice where you can use a variety of desert plants, different colored rocks, boulders, ground covers so spread, plus mulches of various kinds. Plan it out on paper, once established, very little upkeep or watering needed. Depends on your zone...too far north and most cactus won't survive.
