Donation ideas please for crafting items

I think this is an excellent idea! Does your granddaughter live nearby? Does she have a group of friends that you could do a specific craft with them? I would present options and let her choose. Is she in a group, like Girl Scouts or Campfire Girls? Are Campfire Girls even around?? 🤔 Church group? Maybe you could teach the entire troup a craft or skill? How about the same concept at a local senior center, Assisted Living facility, Retirement home? When my mom passed (a lifelong crafter), my brother and sister in law and I went through my mom's extensive stash and we took what we could. We then offered first pick to one of the neighbors that helped me with my mom in her declining years. We still had a ton left over so we divided up and donated to local schools as they are always looking for stuff in the kindergarden and elementary schools for arts and crafts. I can't even count how many times I have been in Walmart or a dollar store watching a teacher take money out of their own pocket to pay for things for their class, it breaks my heart. You have a great idea and maybe this will help your creative juices to see who might benefit most in your area. 🤗

Our local library has crafting days for kids, preteens, and teens. Always looking for donations. Check if your local library has something like that. I agree with checking local schools also. I also have encoutered teachers spending their own money for supplies that "are not in the budget".

Hello Cynthia, I do not know the rules for your beautiful country, but this cousin of yours donates often to our hospital Mental Health Live-In wards. Of course, we are not allowed to donate anything sharp but they always welcome the supplies too.

School art departments love getting this kind of stuff.. Especially private or parochial schools. Usually schools don't have much of a budget for art supplies and the teachers end up spending out of pocket. Schools also love donations of cardboard tubes like wrapping paper or paper towel tubes.

I'd stay away from donating to traditional nursing homes though. Whenever an elder dies with a lot of crafting supplies the first thing people do is donate the yarn and supplies to the local nursing home. As an LPN who did agency work for years I had a lot of yarn re-donated to me from activity directors who were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of donations they got from families. They told me that their residents were either no longer interested or had never learned to knit or crochet.. Better to sell the stash on Craigslist or a Facebook buy and sell group and donate the money to a charitable cause.

There is an order of Catholic nuns whose mother house is nr. my home. They take craft donations and make things that they sell at their yearly fair to help raise money for the day care center and reading/math tutorial classes they run. Salvation Army does wonderful work, too. Also, is there an abused women's shelter in your area? Some churches run "clothes closets" to help abused women and families in crisis get back on their feet. My neighbor takes my donations, and she says, "They'll take anything." Look around your neighborhood, and I'll bet you will find a home for your goodies.

Find out if there is a local quilting group who make quilts for charity, if there is I've no doubt they would love to share your stash of fabric. If there isn't currently a group, why not start one, if you provide the fabric for the first couple of projects it should be easy to get members. If quilts are too ambitious, how about quilted lap blankets for a senior center, or pet beds for a local animal shelter? You've received many excellent ideas, good luck with your donations! When my hands no longer allowed me to knit I divided up my donation, a very large stash of yarn, and shared it with a church group who knits for charity, a women's shelter which offered classes in knitting and crochet, and a group of ladies in NY who knit for charity. All my knitting books were donated to our Friends of the Library Store. It feels so good to give to others!

I used to work at the Boys and Girls Club, and started a craft center for the girls. There favorite was scrap booking. I got all my girlfriends to give up some of their craft stuff including fabric, trims, ribbons, buttons, pinking shears, hole punches etc. I like your idea about shoe box crafts, maybe include a photo on top of what it makes.

There are churches in my area that go on mission trips to places like Honduras. They make children's clothing and take it with them to distribute. I donated about 8 big boxes of my mother's fabric to them.

I am going to write down all these wonderful ideas and see which will work with the stuff I have. Thanks for all the great ideas and suggestions!

Cynthia, Hello I'm from Dupont! we're neighbors! My daughter works at a group home for teens and they love crafts! Think of The Care and Concern clinic they have wonderful families that may like to Make gifts when they can not buy them.

the library in town, bible school day camps, the Pocono Mountain bible camp in Thornhurst? I am a big advocate of never throw anything away- someone will always find a use for it. Good luck maybe we can brain storm someday!

boy I would have all kinds of fun with that stuff making crazy patch quilts and man could I get crazy with all kinds of crafters. I myself do well over a100 different crafts myself...tidbits of fabric, lace pieces, and whatever u can think of would be pretty fun to me. I have 2 daughters, a son, a hurd of sisters....I mean a lot of sisters, a few brothers, nephews, and nieces. Oh pretty close to the whole family does all kinds of different crafts. Try art classes for kids. I teach all kinds od kids how to sew. miniature quilts r fun to do too.

Try nursery schools & day cares too!
