How about giving it a paint job? We chalkboard painted our fridge with green chalkboard paint, its so much fun- we write each other notes on it, draw pictures, make lists, and its a great pop of color
It would be helpful to know how the rest of your kitchen is decorated. If this is to be a statement piece, then I recommend sanding it lightly to remove any imperfections, painting with appliance paint, gluing food labels on it, then do a final coat of a sealer that will protect the labels! You could do the same thing using restaurant menus, photos, etc!
Painting is a ggod solution, especially old colours used for ancient fridge. They were red, pink, green, light green, etc... And don't forgot to paint handles and other extra piece form the surface in chrome. It wass a standard at that time...
