Vinyl plank is great for long term wear. Laminate in general isn't as durable unless you go for the expensive ones. A lot of the LVP are waterproof where the laminate often has that MDF underneath

  • We now have CoreTec by US Floors in a very large area . It is a laminate composite that is absolutely wonderful as it is very waterproof and scratch resistant and has a 50 year warranty!

Definitely go LV. I've done both; would never go back to laminate. LV is easier to install and gives a better floor. It's waterproof. You don't need a saw to cut/fit it. You DO need a good, sharp blade and, for fitting to curved surfaces, STRONG hands to custom cut. Love mine. Did 'em all myself.

A relative of mine is in the flooring business and when I visit one of their stores, I can't believe the amazing sheet vinyl available these days! From personal experience, I would say go with the realistic wood-look vinyl (if it's the look of wood you're after) because my dishwasher line broke one night. The next morning, I woke up to a mammoth flood that had run from the kitchen into the living room that had newly installed laminate. Since laminate is very porous under the planks, the floors were totally ruined! As each hour ticked by as we were shop-vacuuming the water (17 gallons worth), the laminate planks were warping and curling up and were all garbage. Even if you don't want a wood look, stick to sheet vinyl. It's not like the old vinyl from the 60's!

We have LVP and are quite happy with it. It is about 2 years old. It is strong and waterproof. It is exactly what I wanted since I foster dogs who are in various degrees of housetraining. It also seems to be resistant to scratches. I have a friend that refinished her real wood floors because of scratches by her dog - just walking on it.
