Suggestions for the right plant in shade and shallow soil?

we need a low maintenance plant in a shady, hillside area beside some mature azaleas. Due to tree stump remains, we only have 3 inches of soil depth. And, we'd like a bit of contrast with the solid green Azalea leaves. Nearby are some Stromanthe, so that is a possibility. Also, Bromeliads have been suggested. Your ideas and advice, please, and thank you.

Bromeilads will not work planting with azaleaa .They have different light, fertilizer and soil requirements.
