I want to spray-paint an old cement birdbath. Will that hurt birds?

It is drab and has no personality. Should I just paint the outside and not the bowl that holds their water? I don`t want to hurt them in any way.

Shouldnt be a problem, just make sure to apply the proper sealer on top. Have fun! Keep us posted on how it comes out!

Most any paint that is constantly under water is eventually going to lift and peel. I would only paint the exterior or use marine grade paint.

How about mosaic tile, such as used in a swimming pool? It wouldn't take that many to cover a bird bath and it shouldn't "wear off" as the birds use it. The hardest part is choosing the tiles. It might require a lot of cutting to conform to the bowl shape, but still doable and durable.
