Can I grow apple trees in the Phoenix, Arizona area?

Also would like to know what is a good shade tree or trees for the same area. I do not like the Palo Verde tree. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Look on the Stark Brothers web site. They have the best fruit trees. You may even want to call and ask if there is one variety that works well in AZ.
