Repurpose a rotten barrel?

I use pots as my veg garden. Last year my wooden half barrels got rotten on the bottom due to age. Any suggestions on what I can do with them now? I don't want to throw them away

Can you sand, stain, and turn it into a planter (meaning with a pot in it)?
Place a larger pot inside the wooden shell and plant just the same.
double check for termites before saving and reusing.
Cut a bottom out and drop it in
saw the rotten part off leaving a nice circle, hang it on a tree and dangle a bird feeder inside...or cut a circle out of the bottom and place a flower pot in it...or hang in on a tree in your front yard and dangle your street numbers in it or a welcome sign...
