Boring tile in front entrance.

We are having to have a new floor installed due to a leak, and i've been going back and forth as to whether I want it to go straight to our front door or leave the tile area. I like having a space where people can put their shoes, umbrellas, and dirt on the tile before they come in. But it's too expensive to pull up and replace. I was wondering if anyone knew of any way I could put some color on them, designs or whatever, and be able to do it with something that could withstand people and dogs going in and out??
Please ignore the mess around it. The concrete and lack of baseboards doesn't add anything, but that will be improved. It's just the boring tile I don't like.

Do a Google search for painting/stenciling tile flooring. i have seen several You tube videos that show how to spiff up a boring tile floor or countertop. Good luck with it.

How bout just putting throw rug, as large as you can go for the space, in color/colors you love. The throw will minimize the tile and help reduce paws and feet tracking mud/dirt into your house. Some are machine washable so you can just toss it in the washer when needed.

You could also get a grout scraper or use a dremel and remove a bit of the grout and regrout with a different color; either matching or contrasting to give it a new look. But aside from that, I would change out the cubbies you have with a small bench/ottoman coat rack and paint that area a welcoming color and now the floor is not the focal point, but you added a new colorful entrance to your home.

Can you and some friends take it up? That can help with price,if not think of that money well spent an investment in your largest asset. I wouldn't leave it ,it's to dated, back to the 80s and if your having to change other flooring leaving it will do nothing to help the new flooring. I would take wood to door but never carpet. If you can go with tile that doesn't scream 2017 like those long rectangular ones that will date home. Look for something timeless with character, slate comes in so many color choices and within each tile you have additional colors. I would use large ones, 16 by 16.
