Mine are just coming up through some thick winter foliage so I didn't notice them. Just yesterday I noticed snails are eating them. Until I can get snail stuff I covered the whole area with sand. Snails can't slither across it to get to the plants.

Coffee grounds around the base for a good few inches help. Last year, I found 1inch white slug/worms inside the curled up leaves. A gardener friend recommended that I use a shallow plastic container ( dips/margarine/cut bottle etc). Dig hole big enough so container lies level with earth. Pour in some beer - watch the greedy suckers drown. Change regularly! It worked. Will definitely try both again this year. Good luck everyone.

If you live in Florida please tell me how to grow these plants. I normally have a green thumb but not with these plants. They hate Florida and I love their look.
