My husband is always worried about causing a problem where deteriation could start. Also, it's SO hard to poke a hole in. What should we do?

Stucco is just a coating on the wall, you need to know what is under it, wood or concrete block? You can always caulk around any nails or screws to seal it, even put it in the hole prior to adding your screws.

Hillela G. has provided access for a great tutorial. I might suggest attaching a couple of hangers that can display more than one thing. Fewer holes, less patching, fuller displays.

I have used masonry screws. Often you must drill a pilot hole to start. Usually a drill bit comes with or is available with the masonry screws. I didn't have trouble with the stucco flaking or chipping.
