    If it is stainless steel, you can use spray oven cleaner. I take mine outside to spray, then leave a few hours.

    Elaine just moisten the bottom of the pot then cover with baking soda and let sit overnight. It will lift off right away. (If not, add some water, put it over a very low flame and scrape with a wooden scraper. and your pot will be shiny and clean.)

    And unless RJames is trying to be funny, don't listen to him. All you need is a distraction and this can happen to even the best of cooks.

    Wet the bottom of the pans, sprinkle with salt and scrub with a lemon cut in half.

    One thing I have done when it's really bad is baking soda, a 1/2--1 cup of water or so and boil it on the stove. Most or all comes off that way with no effort.

    Use a combination of baking soda and ketchup. Spread it over the pan and let it sit for a while. Then scrub with a non-abrasive pad

    I sprinkle either baking soda or baking powder on the burnt on surface. Place a bit of water in the pot or pan and place on stove till it boils. It usually just scrubs right off afterwards.

    I use a past of dawn and baking soda. Let it sit for about 2 or 3 hours then scrub off with a suitable scrubber. One that won't score your pan.
