What's the best approach to wall paper removal?

The wallpaper has been there for well over 17 years and there is a awful lot of it. We have had no good luck removing wallpaper room trim so any help would be great!

You can do it with softener and hot water, check it out-
You can also rent a steamer. I find it less messy.
Try this before renting a steamer--hot water in a spray bottle. Spray 3 panels of wallpaper, wait 30 minutes, spray again, wait 30 minutes, spray again, then pull the paper from the BOTTOM UP in a jerking motion and the paper should come off. If it starts tearing, scrape it with your fingernail to get it started again. Wash off the glue with hot water and an old broom. It worked for 3 rooms in my house and cost me nothing. Good luck!
All great advice-if your paper has a "plastic" finish, you will need to peel that layer or prick it with a tool designed for this. Then the hot water or fabric softener solution can penetrate the paper backing. There is a great paint tat helps seal any glue you can't remove. Gripper is name
I recently had to remove wallpaper from my kitchen and hallway. My daughter-in-law told me about the hot water/fabric softener idea. I couldn't believe how easy that wallpaper came down.
Oh, I also didn't have to wait 30 minutes. It came down after about 2 minutes.
Spray it down with water ....DON'T USE THOSE ROUND THINGS WITH PRONGS ON THEM ...THEY WILL SCRATCH YOUR WALL...
I recently helped my sister in law remove stubborn, old wallpaper from a long hallway, living/dining room & bedrooms in their new house. We bought the cheapest fabric softener & spray bottles at dollar store. Mix 1 hot water with two parts softener and spray onto walls, put folded towels on floor to catch drips. Use a plastic drywall scraper and keep spraying and scraping. You will need to wash off the walls after to paint, but this method worked for us on the oldest paper I had ever seen. Good Luck
