    What material is the bathtub?

Use Easy off No Fume Oven Cleaner in the BLUE can. Spray it on, let it foam, and sit for a while. Rinse away. May need a little scrubbing. Works on porcelain and fiberglass.

Sounds like fiberglass. I have used bleach and water in a spray bottle. Make sure there is no Comet residue in the tub as it will create chlorine gas, poison. Just keep applying it liberally, if it looks like somethings coming off, use a long-handled car brush and scrub, rinse, reapply until the yellow is gone. I would use a coat of liquid wax on the walls, buff up with a soft cloth. If your a smoker, keep bathroom door shut.

Replace it, as painted finishes do not last or have it re-finished professionaly, or embrace the yellow and change the rest of your bathroom colours to do that, including Towels etc. until you are ready to make the change.
