My lawn is in dire need of help, it looks like a rainbow is growing.

The rainbow of colors consists of dandelions, some purple flowering weed and lots and lots of crabgrass. Should I rip everything out and start from scratch?

Dandelions are one of the first foods available for honey bees, which are rapidly declining. No bees=no food! I leave dandelions right where they are.
get rid of the crabgrass, and have a large flower bed. If you need the lawn, plant over after torching the weeds. you can get a weed burner for as little as 20 bucks, but I just use a plumbers propane torch and burn the weeds out. it's really funn.
