At the lake the afternoon sun always shined right on the deck under the awning...we attached (temporarily, with clips) those roll up awnings that people put over their windows. As the sun went down, we would roll up the shades.

  • I was going to suggest something similar. You can buy an expensive pretty sheet and clip on with pretty DIY clothes pins or binder cprettyr

Or invest in bamboo roller shades.

    1. check with the manufacturer of your awning. see what the wt restriction is and if you diy it keep the load 20% under the wt restriction.
    2. make sure you can open and close the doors. sheets are fine for fair weather, tarps for wet weather.
    3. your floor will still get wet when it rains.
    4. . instructables have plans for awnings and other shade makers- mainly built with pvc pipe and tarps easy to connect and disconnect for storage.

I would stick with a light weight fabric. Maybe an inexpensive cotton. Or even a curtain. Put it through a round rod. At each end you can put curtain clips then attach to awning.

They make clips that have rings on them. The clip is normally for the curtain, the ring normally goes over the rod. I would put the curtain through the rod and put the rings on the end to hold the rod up in clipped to the edge of the awning.
