Don't be scared - you can totally do it!
Chalk paint is a great option because if your cabinets are in decent condition, you can avoid sanding. Just take the doors of the hinges, paint, and perhaps wax. That's it!!
Yes, take all the hardware off and the doors off and paint away. If unsure a light sanding first is always a good idea. If you're cabinets are very dark you might want to do a coat of primer first to make sure the dark color doesn't show through the light color of paint
Lightly sand, clean apply a good primer as Kilz or Zinser, allow to dry in between ,pain t,allow to dry and seal with at least two to three coats of polycrylic making sure each application is dry. Use a foam roller.
I'm with Janet's process. It's doable. You can do it! Don't be afraid. It's only paint. For me, I use Minwax wipe on polyurethane (done with an old sock) after the paint is completely dry. It's a perfect easy application. You go Girl!
I would start with a light sanding to remove any glossy finish. Wipe clean with damp cloth to remove dust and let dry. The next step depends on if you will be staining or painting. I would follow the manufacture's directions. I prefer to spend the money on a high quality stain with a primer all in one. Like Diana Deiley said, "it's only paint!"
You can definitely make it happen. I was scared to death of doing mine but I did n I am extremely happy with the results. I just finished painting yesterday so I don't have any hardware on them yet or many before n after pics but here is a during pic. See the difference? The transformation is unreal lol n the pics do them no justice. I just primed with zinzer n used valspar cabinet paint
Now just add new handles and you've got new cabinets!!
I used rustolium cabinet transformation in my kitchen and my cabinets turned out awesome! I also used the darker one for my bathroom and they look brand new!
