Painting upholstered chairs- How can I make them softer?
I painted some old office chairs and they are extremely stiff. The fabric is loose woven and somewhat stiff (think burlap). Used textile medium as instructed but it made no difference ( did 1 with and 1 without)and only seemed to thin paint and have it soak in even more. I saw some instructions that had you sand between coats but the fabric was so nappy I was afraid to even try it. Anything I can do to make it softer?

Try applying soft wax from Annie Sloan, it will make the fabric more soft and durable...good luck!
I actually sanded my chair cushion with fine grit sandpaper after it had dried good. It is really smooth.
