I think you should get some help from someone with some electrical experience

  • For this project, I say get help too, but from someone who will teach you, not just to do it for you, otherwise how will you learn?

Electricity is nothing to play with, you need a few basic tools and it is not hard, you can do it, just be safe!

I agree! Hanging a ceiling fan is a DIY project, but for someone that has done similar before.

Safety first. If you are not comfortable get professional help.

Hi Kimberly, If you are comfortable working with electricity then go for it. If you're not, please hire someone that is & can explain what they're doing so that you can learn.

As an "older female" myself (56) I've been putting up my own ceiling fans for 40 years. The most recent install was about 3 weeks ago, a remove & replace In the third bedroom. During the install, with circuit breaker shut off, I still had a live wire in the ceiling. Long story short, it arced, causing a power surge in the rooms electrical outlets, shorted out a surge protector AND the computer plugged into it. I also ended up with a burnt circuit breaker in the electrical box

I have decided that I'd rather watch someone else install ceiling fans for me in the future. (It's cheaper than having an electrician come out after the fact to fix old wiring and breakers!

Us older folks often foolishly think we can do the things we did in our 40's, but there comes a point in life when we must realize paying a handyman to do a chore is much cheaper than the cost of doctor bills because we broke a leg falling from a ladder (a relative was cleaning her ceiling fan recently and fell - she ended up cutting the top of her head open on a metal magazine rack and had to go to the emergency room). Please, leave it to someone experienced.
