I live by a lake and had the same problem. Once a year I go to the locale box store like Home Depot and buy several gallons of a product called "Home Defense". I spray the foundation, all around the doors and windows and if you have eves that protrude from your house I spray them as well. Also any down spouts or garage doors etc.
If you wish to be rid of spiders, mice and many other small pests, mix 2 tsps of Peppermint oil with a bit of olive oil and water in a spray bottle.. shake it like crazy and mist it around your house, especially by windows and doors. You will likely have to do this about once a month during warm weather. The good thing is that it is non-toxic to plants, animals, and people. I live in a place that used to be filled with spiders and this has taken care of that problem. I do get a "daddy long legs" once in a while. They do not seem to be bothered as much by the spray.
I have tried several things and nothing works. Don't want harsh chemicals, but hate how spiders and bugs are all in our wooden table and chairs, under sofa and too....

spray bottle with vinegar and water, and spray all the cracks and crevices around your home- good luck!
You will need to treat your yard with an insect control.Just spraying around windows and doors will not be enough maintenance

I agree with Steven spray about foot up house and a foot of the dirt and shrubs .
