I believe what you're referring to are Carpenter Bees that like to turn the outside of your house into a buffet. You can buy a spray at Lowes if you're into non-stop spraying and most pest control companies will tackle the job for too much money and only a few months guarantee. OR you can buy or make your own traps and get rid of the pesty critters. I've seen them on line for $25 - $50 but for about $5 or less make your , my option and they're easy. There are many websites with directions... I like the one I found myfrugalhome.com.

We did the brown paper bag thing..so far it has helped big time for us..we live out in the country and have had problems even if we paint, caulk, pest sprays, stain and use treated wood..this is working so far...good luck!

If is really Carpenter Beetles, you will have to use a professional exterminator as the house will have to be tented and gassed.

Using an insecticide in a sprayer & spraying as high as you can reach & up to 4 foot out from the logs across the ground works wonders for all insects. Usually setting off insecticide canisters inside the building helps by driving the insects out of the building BEFORE you apply any exterior insecticide.
