Can anyone tell me why the round trim on my counter keeps chipping

    Do you, or family members lean against the edge of the counter while working there? Belt buckles, trouser buttons or even just the rubbing and pressure will wear that edge away faster than one realizes. Maybe replace it with a strip of metal? I had a wooden edge like this at my sink and I could never learn to not lean against it, haha!

    I agree with M.M. Maybe a few coats of water based polyurethane may add a little more protection. Most of wood edging was left plain because of this problem.

    The bullnose trim might have some oils that were absorbed into the wood prior to painting. Did you put on a primer first? You might put on a coat of primer and then another coat of the paint, then put an epoxy finish on the bullnose like satin Varathane.
