Why does our tomatoes rot on the bottom and burst open on the top.

I had that happen years ago when I planted a tomato in a large flower pot. The plant itself was beautiful but all my tomatoes were spoiled. I looked into what it was and found it is called bottom rot. A lack of calcium in the plant causes it. It is treatable. Look it up on the internet and you will find ways to treat it. Good luck. Hopefully you'll be able to get rid of it.

It sounds like blossom end rot which is just a calcium deficiency.
