I am remodeling as well on a property we bought. It currently has 20+ year old vinyl strip flooring that looks like wood. Yes, it is looks bad now, but has stood the test of time. Plan to go back with vinyl strips that looks like wood. it has come a long way in 20 years. We currentoy have it throughout. No problems in the kitchen or bathrooms. There is one tear in the bedroom floor.

The property had been a rental before we bought it and one of the renters decided it was a good idea to put polyurethane on it. No a good idea. Which added to the need to replace it.

I find that it is not only cost efficient, but easy to install.

Had some installed about 8 years ago, (went cheap, wish I would have paid the extra dollar per square foot for the better stuff) still looks good, but it had ridges in it to help with the wood grain look. Difficult to sweep and mop.

We do have wood flooring and tile flooring in our home, love the wood, like the tile, hate the grout!!!

    hope this helps...😊

It really depends on the rooms and your budget . Hardwood floors are the best in every room except for the kitchen and bathroom . They can't get wet and can't take humidity , also if you drop a heavy pot or lid on them they're scarred for life. So for the kitchen and bathroom , I recommend tile or if you're on a tight budget and want a uniform look , vinyl tile . Vinyl plank floating floors are durable and waterproof . If one piece gets scarred , you can pull up the one piece and replace it .

Lately, we have been using click lock vinyl plank Flooring. Waterproof, resilient and beautiful. Our real estate agent thought that we had saved the original hardwood floors in the blighted house we redid. Fooled an expert.

What is "best" depends a lot on what the room will be used for. Bare concrete might be best in a shop, and luxurious carpenting in an adult's bedroom.

We like the look and feel of wood, but we are just too hard on the floors, and do not have time to give them the care they need, so we have put ceramic tile in most of our house, and marble in our kitchen. The marble turns out to have been a bad choice, but it is pretty. It takes more care than I realized it would.

We live in a very dry climate, have a concrete slab foundation, and have pets, projects, busy schedules, so carpeting was out, but my sister who lives barefoot and has no inside pets and lots of outside workspace for her projects has nearly total carpet. My son's home is tiles in the kitchen and bath, and wood everywhere else. so "best" depends on what you need.
