I live in MA and I am doing so front yard landscaping tomorrow.

I am replacing some shrubs that are not growing. Any suggestions for some shrubs that will add curb appeal but that will grow in an area that gets partial sun?

Carmell, Try the daylilies, they are colorful and grow in partial sun. Here are a few other plants that you can grow in your garden bed for curb appeal. Fox Glove - foxy mix and Gaura, Crimson butterflies are some awesome choices for your hardiness zone 6A

Phlox and Obedient Plant Vivid has some white and purple flowers you will love.

    Hi Carmell,

Some shrubs that will grow well in a Zone 6 - 7 area and partial shade are:

    - Amur Maple

    - Alpine Currant

    - Amelanchier (Serviceberry, Shadbush) ...»

    - Azalea

    - Barberry

    - Boxwood

    - Butterfly Bush

    - Chokeberry

    - Daphne

    - Dogwood

    - Elderberry

    - Harry Lauder's Walking Stick

    - Heavenly Bamboo

    - Hibiscus

    - Honeysuckle Bush (Dwarf)

    - Hydrangea

    - Japanese Rose

    - Mock Orange

    - Ninebark

    - Summersweet

    - Viburnum

    - Weigela

    - Winterberry

    - Witch Hazel

Hopefully something there will be good for your needs. :)

I can weigh on on some of these choices, Carmell, since I have a garden just over the Massachusetts border in New York with quite a bit of shade. For partial shade and curb appeal, I think andromeda (Pieris spp.) is a great choice. (And if you have deer, they won't touch it.) Daphne can be a little expensive to purchase, but the white-edged foliage of "Carol Mackie" is beautiful and there is nothing like the fragrance of its blooms in May. For some floral fireworks later in the season, and ...»
beautiful fall color, you can't beat oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia). Several cultivars are available depending on how much space you have. Summersweet (Clethra spp.) will thrive where you are, and has gloriously fragrant blooms in late summer when most things are looking tired.

    Happy planting.

I ended up going with a Winter Gem Boxwood, Mountain Fire Andromeda, and some Minuteman Hosta. I am going to add a few more perennials and some annuals for color. Thanks for all the suggestions!

No problem at all Carmell, that's what the community is here for! And I second Yamini's request for some photos when you have everything all done! Good luck!

I am going to add some annuals for color and some perenials to fill it out. My neighbor has this perennial. it's tall grass and has yellow flowers. i was thinking of adding those as long as it can bloom in partial sun.

    Nice work Carmell!

Did you have to do a lot of prep to the flower bed? Looks like you filled in some new soil too. I am inspired and have quite a few beds that need revival at home. Thanks for sharing your pictures, I'll at least start with some buying tools and get the plant list off my refrigerator!

We didn't need a lot of prep for the bed. It was there when we bought the house so we just added more Black Mulch when we finished it the other day.

Looking good, Carmell! I love the bright red new foliage on the andromeda. I doubt that a flowering grass will do well in a partial sun situation, but one grass that will do well is Hakonechloa macra. There is a gold-leafed version that really lights up a shady spot, and one called 'Albo Striata' that will repeat the green and white of your hosta.
