Something is eating the leaves on my sunflower plants. Help!

We have had rain for the past week, off and on (and more to come), so insecticide doesn't stay on, and I have put crushed eggshells around the bottom to keep away slugs. Any other ideas?

Could it be ants? That is my main problem. I crush up chalk and have a thick line around each section or plant. Would need to be replaced after every rain though.
You can try a systemic insect control.
