First of all you need to clean them well. Remove doors and any hardware you need to paint everything with a primer paint first then paint with your favorite color. If you don't primer first the paint will chip easily and begin to peel off.

Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss and roughen the surface for paint. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123. Then paint with your color. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

I did it the easy way. I removed doors (all 22) and hardware and took them to an automobile paint shop. I purchased additional paint from the shop and used it to paint the cabinet facings, sides and the drawers. When I went back to pick up the doors, everything I had painted was dry and all I had to do was re-attatch the

doors with new hardware I preferred over what had been there.

Hi Lynn, I was wondering about having them sprayed. Did they add a poly too? Was that really expensive. I painted my lowers with milk paints about 12 years ago, just starting to wear. Now I have purchased uppers and need to pain those as well as repainted lowers. Thank you.

I always wash my doors and cabinets with warm water and TSP. Let dry thoroughly. Prime the doors & cabinets with Kilz2 (2 coats). Then I paint the backs of the doors first, let dry, then paint the front. I number each door as I remove them on the bottom of the bottom doors, on the top of the upper cabinet doors so I know exactly where to reattach them. Best of luck.

Marilyn, it was over 10 years ago and it was not cheap then, but not too expensive when compared to getting new cabinets. The owner of the shop thought I was crazy, but he was happy to take my money. He had trouble figuring out a price and I did bargain it down. I do not believe they added poly. I clean the doors with the cleaner I buy for my auto-it removes any grease or finger smudges. BTW, I had them painted glossy black.
