i found a big rural mailbox and trying to decide what to do with it. i would love to put it out front for a book exchange with neighbors, but i know it would be stolen.
it is not heavy enough to bold a person and the opening would be on the top. i just love it and don't want to let it go, but am downsizing and unless i can make it useful i has to go. help!!!! margare

I would love to see a photo to generate some ideas! Could you turn it into a planter?

Since I love to garden. I would mount it in my garden area and keep my hand garden tools inside . or, put it on my porch and keep those pesky magazines I still need to read out of sight.

An old mailbox? You don't mean the big blue ones the post office places around town, do you? It 's just that you said it's not heavy enough to hold a person. IF that's the case, I have a married friends who own a bed and breakfast who put it out front every year for letters to Santa. However, it's my guess its one that goes on a post in a front yard. Why not put it on your porch with your street numbers painted or stuck on the side and decorate it as a welcoming decoration. then if you ever need to leave a note for someone like you are in the back yard or something, you can attach a clothes pin for the note or leave it in the body of the mail box with the door open. Just a thought.
