    Where do you live?

This is probably going to get me booed but I can't grow anything but mold. That said, I stopped trying. All my pretty flowers are faux from the dollar tree and thrift stores. People on the street don't know they are fake and people in my home don't care they are fake. They are cheap, pretty, and never die. Just something to think about.

Have you considered looking in your local community for a local gardening group, a community garden or a beginners gardening course. I am sure you local garden centre will also be very happy to spend a few minutes with you showing you what grows well in your area, show what needs sun, shade, wet or dry conditions or similar. Also there are some plants that only grow for one season, some that flower all year round & some that will die off but pop up again next year. Many elderly people are keen gardeners and they live nothing more than having a visitor, perhaps you could do some weeding in return for some cuttings & advice. GOOD LUCK.

Add amendments to the soil, your local garden center can tell you what works best in your area. Miracle Gro for flowers! Water sparingly until seeds germinate, then water regularly.
