If it's a small scratch, on the finish rather than the wood, try rubbing a solution of lemon juice and cooking oil over it with a clean lint cloth. Keep rubbing in the direction of the scratch until it goes away.

For scratches that go through the finish, I have found that a good thick coat of brown Kiwi wax shoe polish works wonders. Apply it and buff it out. I have used it on light, medium and dark oak. It makes the scratch blend into the wood grain. It fills the depth of the scratch. Eventually it hardens, and it permanently fills the hole. I wipe the furniture down with Amish Orange Oil furniture polish immediately after. This removes any excess wax and nourishes the wood. I have also used this system on dark. cherry-finished wood. I imagine any good wax shoe polish would work, as well as any good furniture polish. Those are just the brands I had on hand. Hope this is helpful.

If it is a deep scratch, use a dab of wood putty (sold in small to large tubes and tubs). Fill in scratch then wipe with a slightly damp towel or rag and let dry. When dry, use a wood repair pen (I bought a package of 3 colors: light, brown and black for a dollar at the Dollar Tree store). Color dried wood putty and it should look great. You can also try Old English Wood Oil in a shade to match your scratch. Their dark wood oil covered most scratches in a quick swipe.
