I know they don't like marigolds, I have looked on Gurney's site before and they have in the comments on plants if the plant is 'deer safe'.

They usually wont eat plants that are NOT native to the USA as in Peonies, Japanese dogwood or anything that is poisonous as in Foxglove, Lilly of the valley and etc. You can go online and find extensive list of plants that are proven deer resistant. However and this is a big Word when they are desperate they will eat anything!!!! I have had good luck with a spray called Liquid Fence, Deer and Rabbit repellant I got it at Lowes Home Center it works great, rain doesn't seem to affect it and A gallon lasted me 3 applications in 4 months covers 2000 sq feet, well worth the cost of $25.00. And in closing I'm going out to spray now! LOL

I've learned that if deer are hungry they will even eat the "deer resistant" plants. :( They don't eat ferns and they haven't touched my lilies, bee balm or butterfly bush.

  • Deer turn their noses up at fragrant plants with strong scents. Sages, ornamental salvias, and lavender, daffodils, garlic, annual vinca, marigolds, coneflowers

Use a vegetable peeler on the bar of Irish Spring soap and scatter shavings around plants and bushes. There's a product called Bobbex that works really well if you have something you want to protect though!

I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating - works on rabbits too!
