Is there anything I can spray on new plants to keep my dog off them?

You can try making a spray of hot pepper and garlic.

I use chicken wire around the plant either on top or just below the dirt. This works for cats. Maybe it will stop the dog.

try spraying the area with white vinegar, they don't like the smell.

Vinegar may kill your plants so be careful with it. I agree with the hot pepper spray, adding the garlic wouldn't work at our house as our dogs love anything garlic. You could try sprinkling where he likes to dig with a powdered hot pepper also. Most dogs like to smell everything and it might teach him to leave that area alone if he gets hot pepper up his nose. It works for squirrels and rabbits, maybe it will work for Fido too!

That sounds painful. Is there an area that can be his, where he can dig ? Go to Lowes or Home Depot for inexpensive, easy to put up fencing for the plants you want to save. You can even fence off, without a gate, the dogs area. Plant something cheap. I bet he will be tickled pink. Only dog to have his own fenced in garden to dig in!!!
