If is very hard to get grass to grow good in sand, but it is possible. Takes shorter but more often waterings since the water likes to run away in the sand. We used a fescue grass and it works the best for us. Flowers seem to be hit and miss, but mostly it seems that everything I've planted does come up (lilies, hostas, ferns, bee balm, daisies, lilacs, black eyed susans, etc)

Your soil needs amending with a few inches of Top soil, and Lime.Growing grass seed takes steps.Should you decide on the task you must put the top soil down with Lime, grass seed for your area, starter fertilizer and top with peat moss, keeping moist until it germinates. As far as flowers are concerned, there are a few that will tolerate poor soil conditions, however instead of fighting plant succulents and cacti. You can then container plants more flowers for color.
