How to fix dell scanner error scx-4300?

I looked on sane-project.org and didn't find the SCX-4300 listed as a supported scanner. This post on the Ubuntu forum:
hints that there is a Samsung scanner utility that will work with the 4300. I don't know any details about that utility. Have you ever heard of it?

Unfortunately, its not an uncommon problem, I've been told to change the flat cable and put the scanner car on the right side and turn on the printer with the lid closed. Good luck! The flat cable shouldn't be too expensive to replace
