Wish I could offer advice. I also have RA and when I was younger with it, I planned ahead for this day. There are things but i don't know how much you can afford or why you need to go to the attic. So more info would help, like how much room do you have. You can put a set of stairs in a spare bedroom if you don't need that room to be as big. so please fill in some blanks.

Thanks Kenwestfall2015.....I have Googled and also checked on Pinterest but the majority of projects I have seen are just a "Wee" bit above my means....Thanks for your suggestion & have a Blessed day.

Sometimes local church will help with this labor part. Or Restore Store for Habitat for humanity will help as well.

God Bless you Maryloosgriffn..I moved into my present home 6 years ago with the help of my family and many of my boxes of "treasures" were put in the attic before I had a chance to actually rummage through them...I am now at the point in my life I would like to go through them and enjoy or discard whatever the case may be..........My bedrooms are much too small to build stairs in them..My house was built in the early 1940's.

The hall where the hidden stairs are located is very small as well....Any thoughts would be appreciated....Just "trying" to "Get my house in Order" before I am unable to...Much prayers & blessings to you w/your RA.

Can the same family members who helped you move also get things down from the attic for you? I put shelving along the walls of my garage and put the Christmas decorations that I used to store in the attic on the garage shelves instead. Now when I need something from the attic, I will have my one of my sons or grandson get it down for me. Very little is still up there except for some additional Christmas decorations, and an expensive Litter Maid electric cat box left over from my deceased cat. Decoration shelves in garage are full, so I will eventually have one of the boys clean out the attic for me and donate things that are up there.

Home depot and Lowes sell the pull down stairs and they can also install them. They both offer 6 to 24 months interest free payoff on their charges. So your monthly payment might be affordable. If that is to much buy the drop stairs and have friends or relatives or church members help. Your senior citizen club might also be a help. this might be something to look into anyway. A lot of help is offered there. Meals, games, taxi service ect. A lot is government funded.
