How do I repair chipped veneer on the top of a dresser?

    Maxine if you are just going to paint it then get wood filler putty at hardware store, apply and level with a putty knife and let dry. After sand it all level to the surface and paint away. I have done this on several rescued pieces to far gone to restore but good enough to paint. It works perfect. If you want it to look like the original surface then the video above looks like an expert did it....

    Looks great! But the missing piece I have is large and irregular in shape....many small pieces have been peeled off at varying widths.

    Hi

    Since I have'nt seen the piece, I can only make a suggestion that may work.

    Strip the veneer to the maximum level the fill in the smaller chips that remain, sand and paint or varnish.

    This will reduce the size but not the storage area.
