The answer depends entirely on the location in the home to be installed , and where the home is located, for climate reasons. There are different materials created to accommodate for each different circumstance. Here's a link that may help you decide...

Depends on your needs, budget, use of room, etc.

If one type of flooring was the "best" there wouldn't be so many options available. Your question is a bit too general.

It really depends of where the flooring is, how you want to use it, budget, etc. Hillela suggestion is a good one.

Yes, that question leaves quite the open end. Where are you installing? Where do you live? High humidity areas verses low humidity areas; four seasons verses more consistent weather areas. I believe every flooring has a purpose. I have bamboo floors in my home in Colorado. I have heard every bad thing about laying bamboo in Colorado and I have had a wonderful experience with it. Be careful with laminent wood flooring, it is pretty but doesnt hold up well with wear and tear. Dark wood shows the dirt, which is a double-edged sword. My personal pet peeve is using several different flooring types in an area. My hard wood extends into the kitchen, laundry and powder as I find tile by the front door, hw in the main living areas, tile in the kitchen and linoleum in the laundry/powder irritating. Especially since my sunken family room is stained concrete (awesome option, btw). This flooring being bamboo, of course. If the pros and cons link Hillela posted doesn't answer all your questions, maybe you could post a few more details about your project.
